Your design system, kept to spec
Every team with a design system knows this moment. A designer updates the brand blue in Figma. Two weeks later someone notices the site is still using the old one, and nobody is sure which of the six hard-coded hex values in the codebase should change.
Design and code drift apart quietly. Tokens get renamed in one place and not the other. A developer copies a color from a screenshot. A coding agent, asked for "a button like the others", invents a seventh shade of gray. Keeping it all matched usually takes a standing meeting and someone who cares a great deal.
Today we're launching Basemode to make that automatic. A designer publishes, a pull request arrives, and every check knows the new values.
Why we built it
Design tokens are meant to be the one source of truth between design and engineering. In practice they're a file someone exports by hand, when they remember. And now that more and more code is written by agents, values that only live in a designer's head, or in Figma, get skipped entirely.
We wanted the design system to work the way code already works: changes arrive as pull requests, are reviewed, and are checked everywhere code is written.
How it works
- Connect your Figma library. Publish with the Basemode plugin from any Figma plan, including the free one. Figma Enterprise teams can also sync straight from Figma's API on a schedule.
- Choose your repository and formats. Tell Basemode which folder your tokens live in and what you need, like Tailwind or TypeScript.
- Review the pull request. Every change arrives on its own branch with a plain changelog. Renamed tokens are already fixed where your code uses them, and removed ones come with a list of the files that still need attention.
Nothing reaches your main branch unless someone merges it, and if nothing changed, nothing is opened.
How we're different
Pull requests, not another docs site. Your repository stays the source of truth. Basemode only changes the folder you choose, and the same checks run in CI, in review and inside your coding agents.
Coding agents stay on spec. Over MCP, assistants like Claude Code and Cursor get your design system's overview, token search, the right token for a raw value, a code check, your guidelines and a contrast check. When something's missing, they can tell your team instead of inventing it.
Use as much as you need. The engine also runs as a command line tool and a GitHub Action, with no account and no code changes. The hosted product adds the plugin, change history, reference repairs across your team, shared docs pages and Slack.
Your credentials stay yours. Figma, GitHub and Slack tokens are encrypted and never shown again after you add them.
Fair pricing. Only the people who sign in to Basemode count. Developers reviewing pull requests in GitHub, people reading your docs and assistants connected through MCP don't. The Free plan includes MCP, and Team adds automatic pull requests and adoption tracking for $79 a month for up to 10 people.
Try it today
Start free and connect your Figma library, or pick a brand color and let Basemode build a design system you can share and pull into code, then connect Figma later. Your next design change can land as a pull request instead of a meeting.
